About Highland Student Ministry

At Highland Student Ministry, we do not believe teenagers are the leaders of the future church. We believe they are the leaders of the church right now and of the future. We believe they are called to be full participants in the family of God, that God’s Holy Spirit speaks truth through them, and that they are called to leadership and service within our church and city. We believe in equipping teenagers through Christ-centered relationships with adults who share their passions and gifts for service. We believe teenagers are capable of understanding deep scriptural truths and discerning God’s preferred future for themselves, our church, and city through studying God’s word. Finally, we believe in having lots of fun.

Teaching Times

(6th-12th grade) meets in room 207 every Sunday for announcements and a period of worship before splitting into Middle and High School groups to study scripture together.

Relationship Time

Every Wednesday night High Schoolers gather in grade-based huddles at Highland and in homes. Middle Schoolers meet in classes at church on Wednesdays that focus on building community.

Summer at HSM

Opportunity Camp – Is a camp for Abilene’s Elementary aged students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to go to camp. HSM High Schoolers serve as counselors for students and develop deep relationships. However, camp is just the beginning of the relationship and a catalyst to restore Abilene throughout the year.

Camp Roots – Every other year HSM goes to visit our church partners in Itu, Brazil where we attend Camp Roots, a Portuguese and English bilingual camp. Camp Roots combines the traditional camp experience with daily service to the Itu homeless and recovery communities.

IMPACT – Every year our middle school boys spend a week serving at the IMPACT Church of Christ in Houston which serves the 5th Ward part of Houston.

Fortress – Every year our middle school girls spend a week serving the Fortress Youth Development Center in Fort Worth.
